A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.

have to have a hysterectomy and am scared

Hello...my name is Heather and I am 34. I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy on 6/30/10. I am scared and need advice. i have 3 children and had my tubes tied in 2000. i began bleeding alot approx 2 months ago and it is only stopped when on meds. My doctor wants to use the robot but not sure if it will be ready in time for surgery and i have opted to just have the surgery no matter how he has to do it. I can not take bc pills do to a condition i have called psuedo tumor and the other options(dnc, internal birth control...etc) are only temp. I am in pain most the time and pretty much live in a state of wanting to vomit. I am dizzy all the time and just want this all to be over. the closer it get to surgery day the more scared I am. Does anyone have any advice or details on what to expect after surgery. plz help I am freaking out.......

I had a robotic hysterectomy 7 weeks ago. I was also freaking out and scared to death before my surgery. I wish I had known then how easy it was going to be. I was up walking the night of my surgery, back to work in 2 weeks and back to my normal life in 4 weeks. If you are not able to have the robot, your recovery might take a little longer, but I promise you, it is not going to be as bad as you think it is.

I don't know if you saw my recent posts but I urge you to read them before you proceed with a hysterectomy.

If you have questions, I will be happy to answer them. I don't want other women to suffer the awful consequences of this surgery. Every woman deserves to know the lifelong consequences that most doctors don't tell you.

why do u need a hysterectomy? u say u bleeding for 2 mths but whats the reason? is there no other option? like ablation to stop the bleeding? i had hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. was supposed to be keyhole but they had to revert to open one. i have a high pain threshold but, 2 weeks later im still very sore. i was told not to do anything at all for my 1st week out of hospital. then no lifting things for 6 weeks. lifting included taking the wash out machine apparently. this isnt possible for me as i live alone with my daughter so i have had to do it. probably why im in so much pain still. even walking is still a hell of a chore. i used to walk 6 miles a day. now im walking maybe 1/4 lol and it kills me. they also took my ovaries--are they taking urs? they werent supposed to take mine but they were too badly damaged. i was NOT prepared for the hot sweats, they a nightmare. please see if any other alternatives are available to u cos with 3 kids its gonna be so hard

I hope you read more of the life long consequences of this surgery before youjumped into it.
