Hysterectomy Support Group
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.
Dr. Christianne Northrup was a guest on Dr. Oz yesterday and said that when she was the chief resident at Tufts the saying was:
"There's no room in the tomb for the womb."
Sure sounds like a "conspiracy" on the part of gyns to remove women's uteri! I know Dr. Northrup followed along with this crowd at least for awhile; I don't know her current stance on hysterectomy. But I did hear that she had a myomectomy for fibroids instead of a hysterectomy.
She also said on Dr. Oz to "hold onto your ovaries." She specifically mentioned the Mayo study showing an increased risk of Parkinsonism in women without ovaries. She didn't mention any of the other studies showing increased risk of all-cause mortality.

Dr. Stanley West (author of "The Hysterectomy Hoax") reported attending a seminar on medical economics in 1994. The experts said that gyns make their money by doing surgery and that hysterectomy generates the most money. The attendees were urged to cultivate their patients carefully. Initial care would include advice on contraception, then it would move to pregnancy and delivery. Once the family was completed, the gyn should start planting the idea that his/her patient would one day need a hysterectomy.
This is precisely why 22 million women in the U.S. have had a hysterectomy and why the numbers remain so high. This is a culture that starts in medical school and being as lucrative as it is will be hard to change.

A friend of mine, who is a doctor, told me that when a doctor advises surgery I should always ask the question what would you advise your wife or daughter to do in the same situation? Bottom line, we have to be better advocates of our own health.
Which states allow this madness and what happens when the doctor is rightfully sued and loses the suit?
