A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.

This is my first post here. I am at a place I had hoped not to come to: more surgery or some kind of medical treatment for fibroids and severe monthly cramps.

I am hoping for some input about LupronDepot. It stops the periods while on it. I will be on it for 6 months. I am concerned about how it will effect my moods as I have not reacted well to birth control pills in the past. And with this shot it is for three months; can not stop taking a shot I have already been given if the stuff makes me miserable.

I really do Not want to have a hysterectomy. My dr. is just being patient with me; he thinks that it is inevitable; perhaps it is.

I will try the Luprondepot; I am so scared it will make me angry or impossible to live with..etc...

If it does not work then I may try Endometrail ablation but it will stop my periods and getting pregnate.. but that may not matter as I may already not be able to get pregnate because of the fibroids.

Sigh, I have been through so much already, I just cannot face another major surgery; at least not right now.

Have any of you tried the LupronDepot and or the Endometrial ablations??? What where your results? Would you recommend either. What have you done to cope with your female issues that has worked?

I had an endometiral ablation for heavy and painful periods and it didn't work. Have you had a second opinion? If you would still like to get pregnant, there might be other options to consider? An endometrial ablation is final as it would prevent pregnancy, or if you did get pregnant anyway, it would be dangerous for you as the lining of the uterus is damaged.

Just need to talk:

JUst need to talk. I went to the dr. and as usual I did not like what I was being told.

The dr. believes firmly i should have a hysterectomy and i feel just as strongly I should not. I may only be prolonging the inevadable though.

I am so tired of the horrible periods i have each month... I am going to try a med called LupronDepot that will put me in a menopause state for 6 months.

I am so scared of the meds and surgery; but i am also a becomeing more disparate for pain relief.

If the lupron does not work then i may try a procedure called endometraal ablation but it will end my periods.

I just do not want a hysterectomy and i do not think i can handle having such a surgery right now.

I am scared of the lupron; it has menopause type side effects. And the shot is storng; it covers a three month time span. If i do not like the effects I am stuck with them for months. When the pill made me sick and meaner than a rattle snake and then weepy I just quit taking it... I will not have that option with the Lupron.

I just do not like my options and I am mad about it and at my body for being so sickly. I am having a "i am mad at God moment". He created me with all this faulty wiring and guts and tubes and junk that does not work right and hurts too much...

pout and sniff and tears and then I need to just get mad with determination to win.

I had the endometiral ablation done and I think that's why today I have to have a hyserectomy, I only ever had heavy, heavy periods, after the ablation i developed severe endometriosis and blood build up..so now my best option is a hysterectomy..I wish I never had the ablation done.
