A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.

I am going to try Lupron Depot to stop my periods. I am so scared not only of the meds but that I am only putting off the inevitable. But I am so scared to have an hysterectomy.

What was the best and worst of being on meds that stop the periods. I am told the first month of the meds are pretty emotional and painful.

I really need support through this.

I had a hysterectomy on Aug 1st. Before my surgery i had 3 Lupron shots. The only thing i experience with those shot were systoms of menapause. My surgery was easy because it was vaginal. There was very little pain. But you still have to take it easy after the surgery. I am here for you if you need to talk..

I HAD MY HYSTERECTOMY SEPT 21, 2000 AND I'M DOING BETTER. HAD IT CUZ I HAD PAINFUL PERIODS.

I was on the Depo shot for 4 years. At first I liked it but I gained weight and I think it lead to the cysts on my ovaries.I had a vaginal hyst almost 6 weeks ago and I feel great. I kept one ovary so no surgical menopause for me. You will have some after effects of the hyst but drugs give you side effects also.It's a big descision.

I know before my hysterectomy I was on diffrent meds to help with periods and endo.I had lupron 3times for 3 months a shot at first it wan't to bad but by the 3rd I was having menopause symptoms.I had to make this hard decision I did keep both of my ovaries but I may have to have them removed if the pain continues.I was very scared about having surgery but after weighing out my pros and cons the pros won.So I hope that this is helpful.If you need anything let me know.Just get hold of me and I will do what I can to help.Hang in there and know what ever your decision is you will know it is right when it happens.I know I found it was worth a shot to have the Lupron see if there is something else they could do they were going to try a Marena birth control but I didn't go through with it because I was having so much problems with endo.So good luck
