A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.

Anxiety and low estrogen

I am 59 and had a total hysterectomy many years ago.
I've been on HRT, vivelle dot, and missed two patches lately.
I have anxiety with tension in my neck, I get really hot then cold, and have heart flutters.
Can missing a few doses cause this?
Please let me know if this sounds familiar.

Yes, missed doses of estrogen can cause those symptoms. An estrogen level that's too low or one that fluctuates too much can cause symptoms. Every woman's body is different. Some are more sensitive than others to fluctuations and some don't need much as much estrogen as others.

A sluggish thyroid can also cause these symptoms. And thyroid problems are more common after menopause or hysterectomy. But if it all started after stopping the patches, it's likely low or dropping estrogen level.

The fluctuations of the patch were a problem for me. When the patch was wearing out, I had classic low estrogen symptoms.

See if you can get an oral or topical, more consistent than the dots and less expensive.
