Hysterectomy Support Group
A hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus, usually done by a gynecologist. Hysterectomy may be total (removing the body and cervix of the uterus) or partial (also called supra-cervical). Although there are conservative alternatives, hysterectomy is performed for uterine fibroids, pelvic pain, pelvic relaxation, heavy or abnormal menstrual bleeding, and cancer.

If anyone here cares to share their diagnosis i am just wondering...what brought me to make the choice to have a hysterectomy was the severe pain due to endometriosis so for those who had it for the same reason...did it help. i understand its not a cure and that it probably wont take away all my pain but im hoping that it will at least take the edge off or make it a bit more tolerable

Hi! My diagnosis was recurrent cervical cancer. My first 2 surgeries were 12 years ago. This summer the tests showed that it was back and was also in my uterus. I am so glad that I made the decision to have my hyst. It wasn't elective... my doctor recommended it as well. But, ultimately I had the choice to agree or disagree. That was a no-brainer! From majority of what I have read here, the ladies that got a hyst for endo seem happy with their decisions. I hope this helps!! XX Terri

Yes it does take the painful edge off from not having my periods any more but the every day pain is still horrible for me. I guess its cause the pain wont go away at all. There are nights when I cant sleep from the pan and I always wake up every morning in pain. I can go to bed at 2 am and still wake up early in pain. my periods were every 2 weeks for 2+ years and they were really bad. To the point they put me to my knees in horrific pain. I dont regret having my hysterectomy but the adhesions I think are just as bad right now. I had my laparoscopy on the 9th and I see my specialist tomorrow to get the results from the adhesions. I'm hoping no more endo. A biopsy has to be done as you cant see endo in adhesions. Its like they get burried in them. My surgery wasnt a success. I am in the same pain I was before surgery so I am also going to find out what my options are going to be from here on out. I have tried a pain specialist but it didnt work for me. All he wanted to do was give me an epadural shot and try not to figure out how I can lead a some what normal life. You might be lucky and they got all your endo when they did your hyst. but if you still have your ovarys your chances are not good as they produce estrogen. My first gyn that did my hyst put me on premarin and at the time Ididnt know it had estrogen..I guess I should have read the packet that came with the pills but I figured he knew what he was doing. Once you start taking anything with estrogen your out of luck..I was feeding it. I am looking for a job right now and I'm finding it tough to do. I cant touch my stomach or have anything rub up against it. It send me through the roof. I wish you the best of luck! Do you feel a big difference now that you have had your hyst? I didnt feel much of a difference myself so I knew it didnt work for me.My sister in law had stage 4 endo and it cured her. She knew it did and she felt a huge difference than before. I guess its like rolling the dice. You will know more the longer you recover as to what is pain from your hyst and what is not. Its been since Feb 09 and I have healed from mine so theres no guessing. Its just different for all women but one thing is you dont have to worryabout the horrible periods! Take care and let meknow how things are going for you so far?..xx staci

I had my surgery in may and so far I think it was the best decision I ever made. I had low grade cancer in the cervix that refused to go away!! So for about a year every 3 months I would get tested to see how bad it was, I was a nervous wreck all the time and finally the doc said either we could do the leep proc. one more time or get a hyst. I chose the hyst.Yes it was scary as he** but it was the right choice, when he was in there he found that I also had endo. funny I was never in any pain. I guess I was lucky. Its been almost 3 months now and I feel fine, I get cramps every now and than and still a bit swollen but at least Im alive. I go to the docs on tues to see what the swelling is about.sorry to ramble on so lol.

I am sooooo sorry to hear that having a hysto didnt help you aside from not having the periods! I was in the same boat as well it seemed like i was ovulating every week! I am sooo sorry that you are in the place you are, let me know if there is anything i can do to help.
