Hypotonia Support Group
Hypotonia is a condition of abnormally low muscle tone (the amount of tension or resistance to movement in a muscle), often involving reduced muscle strength. Hypotonia is not a specific medical disorder, but a potential manifestation of many different diseases and disorders that affect motor nerve control by the brain or muscle strength.
do you have anything to share regarding feeding times ? do you cut her off or keep feeding? do you have to distract her after food. how about play?- everything goes into my sons mouth and he particularly likes sinking his teeth into his toys or anything near his mouth. we are working with an ot to try and help him to play more appropriately.
thankyou so much for your response - this is the first time i really feel like i can talk to other mothers who understand. i wish you ongoing success with emma. kind regards.
I know how you feel, about a bubbly baby, we didnt have that with our Julie either, you may want to check into sensory disorder as well, that may have something to do with the feeding issues,,
I wish you luck,,,hugs
so far, the bloodwork shows that there are not any genetic abnormalities.
so all that information amounts to alot of ruling out of things. as far getting on with day to day routine i still crave ideas as to how to keep mealtimes calmer and make my son more comfortable regarding his refluxing and constipation.
i welcome any insights from mums who have dealt with this - what kind of approach do you use with your child who is not sure how to regulate eating. feed them/ cut them off? is avoiding the crying the most important thing or letting them work through it. my son gets upset when he sees other people eating - since he cannot physically get over to the source he wails until i remove him....
I also found that decreasing the amount of citric acid has helped as well. You would be amazed at the amounts of high acid in fruits like apples. By making changes like switching to Pear juice instead of apple juice and Pear Applesauce instead of regular applesauce, it has helped as well. You can find sites on high acid foods to help with that if you want to. Hope that helps.
ALL and all Emma is really close to being able to eat and drink just like her sibs
