whats the deal with armour/westhroid/nature-throid

I'm new to hypothyroidism (just had a TT) and in researching the various replacement options am reading things about the natural replacements not being available?? I can't find any certain info about whats going on and everything I'm finding is from 2009. Anyone have any recent info?

The natural replacements are available. Apparently there was a shortage at one time, but there isn't now. At least I didn't have any trouble getting the Armour when I could get a perscription. And there lies the problem -- getting a doctor who will perscribe the natural hormones. The AACE (American Association of Clinicl Endocrinologists) recommend that the natural not be used for various reason that I can't explain because I don't understand, so finding a doctor that will perscribe them is sometimes difficult. I believe I do better on the Armour then on the synthetic but I had to switch back to the synthetic until I find a doctor that is OK with it. I just switched a couple of days ago and so far I'm doing fine on Synthroid so I hope it keeps up.

I've taken 30 mg, 60 and 90 mg Armour over the past several months and the tiny pharmacy I go to near my house has never had a problem ordering it. If you are concerned, just call the pharmacy you would like to use and inquire with them about their ease of getting Armour or the other natural thyroid meds.

I called CVS in our area and they said they can't get Armour. I looked up Naturopathies in this area and they perscribe it, hmm!!
