Hi all,
I need some thoughts. I am currently subclinical hypo (fluctuating between low and normal, and exhibiting symptoms), and I am awaiting seeing my Dr again in 3 weeks. I was told I couldn't be medicated or treated yet (although the more I read and learn from people here, that may not be the case). Either way, I am simply on vitamins D3 and B12, and my symptoms are slowly getting worse. I've got no medications, and am being patient to take the proper steps as I've been advised by a few in the medical/naturopath field. Regardless of what my two lab tests have shown, I am simply in this position at the moment.
I am struggling with this cycle of being so fatigued that I can't move after a day of work, or on the weekends when all I want to do is nap, which then translates to my inability to try to get active. Obviously I have some weight gain (~25lbs since June 2012), and it's bothersome for me. I used to play soccer twice a week and yoga once a week, and I missed my entire season this winter cause I literally couldn't do anything.
My question is: 1) aside from starving myself, 2) knowing that I am in this waiting period until I get more info from my MD, and possibly seeing a ND after that, and 3) I am not on any medications right now...
What can I do to assist me to lose some weight? Clearly it's not an easy fix, I know I can't take something that will magically melt off the pounds. But what has worked for people out there that struggle with this? I can't get myself out of this cycle of fatigue and weight gain...I am struggling to just move after a full day of work. And let's face it....the weight gain and my image of myself is not helping the depression any. I feel ugly, worn and like some alien being when I see myself in the mirror.
Any suggestions are welcome. I know that getting on meds and pushing my Dr is needed, and I will get there. And seeing a ND will help too, but it takes time. I just want something that can help me now...suggestions, motivation, food choices, ANYTHING. My head can't take the emotional beating that it gets when I look in the mirror right now.
It's funny, cause the few people I know here at work that have hypo issues, they are barely symptomatic now, clearly the meds have helped them, and their issues were straight forward. But I'm beginning to think my issues aren't going to be straight forward, and I may be dealing with this for a while......ugh!

Your best bet is to continue to eat a healthy weight loss diet. It will hopefully keep you from gaining as much. I put on almost 100 lbs before mine was diagnosed. I am probably lucky I am a chronic dieter or I would have surely put on more. Though when it is in full swing you can gain even when you stick to your diet.

I would suggest seeing an ND. Although I was extremely hypo when I first saw him, he does treat based on symptoms and not lab numbers. To my understanding this is the practice with most NDs. I have gained about 10 lbs or so but luckily have not gained any more than that. I started seeing my ND roughly one year ago due to being fed up with conventional medicine and suffering greatly at the ignorant doctor's that treated me when I first diagnosed 2 months prior to seeking care with an ND. My ND immediately put me on a paleo/gluten free diet, I believe this has helped me not gain any more than I have. The paleo diet is worth reading up on. There is plenty of information online.
