So over the last couple years I've been in and out of my doctor's office with all kinds of complaints, begging for thyroid medication. She's been hesitant to give it to me because she said while my thyroid does appear to be having issues, it's not as bad as all that and couldn't possibly be the reason for ALL my problems. There has to be something else. After a year of tests and specialists nothing else was ever found. Even still after my last round of labs her office called and said that my thyroid is looking sluggish and I should consider taking a supplement for it. *sigh* So whatever, I gave up and stopped bugging her. Figured I'd give it a few months or a year and get the tests again and by then it'll probably be worse and I'll qualify for meds.

Meanwhile I've been paying attention to some cognitive issues I've been having and realized that I think I'm having little tiny seizures. Small ones, but kind of a lot of them. And this has been going on for years but I never realized what it was. I decided I should probably tell the doctor and get an MRI just to double check that there's nothing super wrong that needs to be addressed.

So today I sat down with her and started to describe some of the cognitive problems, and she flipped through my chart and said "Are you taking your thryoid medication?". I said, what? No, you never gave me any. She looked at the chart and said "Oh no, you definitely need thyroid medication. We need to get you on that."

OMG. It's been nearly a year since I had those labs done. A year that I could have been taking medication. I have no idea why the office staff told me to take a supplement.

Meanwhile though I told her about the seizure symptoms (which I think could possibly be related to the thyroid issue) and she got really upset and focused on that. So first we're doing an MRI and an eye exam to make sure it's nothing horrible, and then I can start giving thyroid medication a try.
