TSH normal but still feel horrible

Just had my labs done after not being on any meds for 2 years, and TSH came back at 2.4... they are still putting me back on meds (50mcg synthroid) but told me the symptoms i am experiencing are NOT being cause by my thyroid. She also performed organ tests which all came back normal. I'm sorry what was that? I havent been able to walk normally for over a week and your telling me nothing is wrong. 5 years. 5 YEARS i have been getting toss between doctors and no one can tell me what is wrong. I have been tested for lupus and RA 1 time, both negative. They refuse to do any additional testing and I do have fibromyalgia and the rheumatologists refuse to treat me. I was told by endo i need to be in pain mgmt and should have been sent there years ago..but am learning through others that most pain mgmt doctors refuse to treat patients like me as well. i dont know what to do. i can't work. i havent worked since 2012, i am a stay at home mom. My gate has changed so much due to pain that i now have callus in places on my feet where it should not be, like the middle of the underside of my big toe and between the ball of my foot and the arch. what the hell am i suppose to do. I live in Jacksonville NC and i am on medicaid.

Sorry to hear you've been dealing with clueless doctors! It's all too common, unfortunately.

While TSH 2.4 falls within the normal range, it's not normal for most people. Studies have shown that healthy people have TSH around 1.0.

I'd keep pushing for dose increases to at least get your TSH below 1.

You could tell the doctors that your TSH has "room" to decrease and still fall within the normal range....and you'd like to try a lower level to see how you feel.

If you can't get the pain management you need from your doctors maybe you could get physical therapy to help you "learn" how to walk again in pain? The more your body is out of a normal position the more pain you'll be in. If PT can help you to at least walk again normally it would be someplace to start from.

My GI doctor has gotten me a home health nurse and physical therapist to come into my home, paid for by Medicare. It's for the next 9 weeks. This company only takes Medicare patients. So perhaps one of your doctors can find PT for you.

I really hope you find an answer to your pain. I'm sorry that your not feeling well.

You can always tell an Old School Doctor or Endo by two things. They rely too much on TSH, and they prescribe Synthroid (T4). You know most people who have Thyroid problems also have one additional problem. Their Thyroids can't convert T4 to T3. Yet these Doctors love to prescribe it. Do yourself a favor, starting tomorrow you have a new Alphabet. Your new Alphabet only contains 23 letters. Take the letters TSH and throw them out the window. They are useless and have caused more problems than people who have been cured. Consider switching to a dessicated thyroid medicine like Armour, NP Thyroid (by Acella), Natures Thyroid, a few others. You can also supplement with Cytomel which is pure T3. Then you aren't dependent on your body to convert T4. The next Dr you see that talks about TSH, dump him.
