TSH 6.9

Hi all,

Diagnosed in 2007 when my TSH was around 4. Symptoms: cold intolerance, large amount of hair hair falling out daily, and severe brain fog.

Long story short: TSH is now 6.9 but I feel great. In fact better than I have in a while.

On Levoxyl 125 mcg every other day.

Thoughts?

I've never heard of thyroid medication prescribed EOD.

I never heard of Every Other Day either.... But since I somehow forgot to take my Cytomel this morning, this is good news.... :)

Have never heard of EOD for thyroid meds. Your TSH is really high, like REALLY. You feel well? What are your other lab values with ranges?

Sorry for the delay in responding. The only other lab result is T4 (free) 1.16.
Since Levoxyl (T4) has a long half life (that is, it remains in the body greater than 24 hrs), it can be split up as every other day. It's like my taking 62.5 mcgs every day. I have a hard time splitting the pill so the endo suggested that. It's been working for me. I'll have labs in 6 weeks. If the TSH is the same or up, the Levoxyl will be upped.

It doesn't work with Cytomel because it has a short life (4 hrs or so).

Again, I feel great. I sleep like a log and more importantly I wake up refreshed. No brain fog nor fatigue (unless I have too much sugar) and good mental focus.

I think this is how a normal person feels (it's been so long). :-)

CONGRATS, bronxpreston. Good for you. You found another way of taking the T4. It's great to know of another successful story.

If what your taking makes you feel better, then that is good enough. Forget about your TSH, it will only misslead you. As far as every other day, if it works for you then don't listen to these others who have never heard of it.
Just remember these words of the Late and Great Jimi Hendrix, "I'm not going to die when it comes time for you to die so let me live my life the way I want to".
