Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
"I am going to have blood work done again tomorrow and I am 6 weeks into the dose increase of levoxyl 62.5 and armour 75. I know it's soon to repeat since it wasn't quite 2 weeks "
So, when was the date of your last lab work?
And, you started levoxyl 62.5 AND armour 75 mg SIX weeks ago, right?
What was your previous dosage?
Well, the labs you posted are as follows:
Free T4
Range: 0.820 -1.770
Result:1.750
Percent of range: 97.89%
Target range: 1.53-1.77
Free T3
Range: 2.000 -4.400
Result: 4.400
Percent of range: 100.00%
Target range: 3.80-3.92
So, I'm not sure WHY you got an INCREASE at the time these labs were taken (six weeks ago, right?)
I'd say you ARE hyper - if the timing and the labs you listed here are correct. Your at the top of both ranges, and while some people only feel well when they're "slightly" over range - you've add more medication since your last labs that were at the top of the range to begin with, right? If so, you may have over-shot the mark.
Please keep us posted.
So, to recap - in order by date:
Labs from April 10th with a dosage of 50 of levoxyl and 75 armour
Free T4
Range: 0.820 -1.770
Result: 1.430
Percent of range: 64.21%
Free T3
Range: 2.000 -4.400
Result: 3.900
Percent of Range: 79.17%
Based on the above labs - you raised your dosage to:
62.4 levoxyl and 75 armour (since 4/10?)
A Net increase 12.5 of Levoxyl
Labs from May 7th: (you were on your new dosage for 3 weeks and 6 days?) That's just a bit shy of four weeks. If it was "less than 2 weeks ago) this won't tell you much and is unreliable.

Percent of range: 97.89%
Target range: 1.53-1.77

If you have labs done tomorrow (5/18/15) You will have been on that dosage for a little over five weeks (if you started them on 4/10) - that actually should be long enough to get a good idea what's going on with you. Really, 4-6 weeks is long enough to wait to get a good lab result. You're well within that range. So, this next set of labs should tell the tale. UNLESS you started the meds only 2 weeks ago - then it won't tell you much at all.
I DO think it's a good plan IF you've been on your new dosage at least four weeks. If you haven't been on your new dosage for four weeks - you need to wait.
Now, provided you've been on your new dosage for four weeks (at least) the following is true: If you're labs are still a bit high and you are having a racing heart, cannot sleep, have a "skin crawling" type feeling - then you're most likely a tad bit hyper. It really depends on your symptoms. As you stated already: You can't go on like this.
Yes, thyroid issues can absolutely cause tingling and insect-crawling on you- type sensations.
I vote that you wait until you've been on your new dosage of meds for four weeks. If you have been...proceed with the 'plan'. Again, if you haven't been on that dosage for four weeks - wait.
I know it's hell. But, here's what happens during "titration" (moving up in meds) - your body has to have time to adjust to it. You can get new symptoms and drop others and sometimes it happens very fast, but normally, you will adjust.
However, if you have an adrenal issue (which should have been checked prior to getting thyroid meds) you will have difficulty adjusting.
This isn't in the endocrinology manual, they don't tell you about it, and we're left to figure it out on our own, but I did my share of "white knuckle titration" and while, yes it was hell, it was also worth it.
If you're truly hyper (which your next labs should show) it's an easy fix...simply move back down in dosage to your previous dose.
Keep me posted!
Did you go and do labs again? I know it was a matter of waiting on the dose increase before repeating the labs.
Based off of your May lab work you very well could be hyperthyroid. I know when I was hyper I couldn't sleep a wink and I experienced all sorts of heart symptoms like palps and racing heart, and felt extremely jittery. (Of course so many symptoms can go either way; hypo- or hyperthyroid. Or adrenal related!) You should have a good idea after next lab draw.
Adrenals do go hand in hand with thyroid. Sadly many doctors don't mention this. Here is a page for you to visit to see some low cortisol symptoms: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/adrenal-info/symptoms-low-cortisol/
Best to you!!
