Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
TSH 2.4 (1.2 - 5.3)
Free T4 1.3 (0.8 - 2.7)
That's an insanely low Vitamin D. I would strongly suggest taking a supplement. A TSH of 2.4 is higher than you want it - a healthy TSH is at about 1. But to really know how your thyroid is doing you need to test your Free T3 and Free T4, which are the actual hormones that your thyroid makes (TSH is a pituitary gland hormone). To find out if you have Hashi's you need to test for thyroid antibodies.
Are you having any symptoms?
Do you have a family history of thyroid disease by chance? In your mother or grandmother?
T4 1.35 (0.80-1.80)
T3 2.8 (2.0-4.4)
TSH 2.38 (0.30-5.00)
Never got tested for vitamin D last year
I had my TSH level tested 2 weeks ago by my primary doctor and it was 2.4 I need to get tested by my Endo but in the meantime these are my levels
T4 - 55%
T3 - 33%
Most people feel best when their T4 and T3 are in the upper ends of the range, at least 60-75%. Your T3 was definitely low. Once you start thyroid meds you should have your levels checked after four to six weeks to see how much that adjusted things. If you're still too low the doctor would increase your Synthroid and you'd test again in four to six weeks. Again and again until you get to the point that you're feeling well again.
Glad you're getting new labs and reviewing things with the Endo. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
