let me start over, Yes it could be realated bc I have the exact same problem. My voice is VERY hoarse and I sound like I am sick but I am not. Sometimes when I wake up I have no voice, that only happens when I sleep on my back and my thyroid presses on my voice box all night. My dr ahs tol me that my thyroid is 3 times the size that it is supposed to be and that I have a Goiter. (it sounds like I have a plague or something) anyways if it continues to bother you I would tell my dr and see what he says.
Once again I am sorry that I sounded mean. :~)
I love to sing at Temple so I have to be careful. I am also in sales & is constantly on the phone. I don't talk on the phone when not at work. I'm thankful for text & emails.

I developed a cough that I couldn't get rid of for a couple years.
Doctors kept suggesting acid reflux. The meds didn't work. Three specialists didn't find the answer.
When I heard acid reflux over and over again, I started watching myself. I was laying down after eating and created some actual reflux symptoms that the meds couldn't treat.
I propped a pillow behind me when I sat in bed after lunch one day and from that day on my cough vanished.
Become an investigator. Be able to express your symptoms very clearly to a specialist. Write a check list of things that may cause it. Check off the list and observe yourself.
Its a little bit of trial an error. Hope this helps. You aren't the only one who has had some sort of challenge here.
