Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
I've stopped with taking extra Selenium for now as I believe my T3 has come up.
Good luck and {{{hugs}}} :-)
I'm on 300mcg and my weight isnt shifting at all, only think I can think is its just not converting properly and I had this problem before back in 2002 when I first got ataxia symptoms.
I also read T3 helps body produce progesterone so dont know whether to try that as it might solve both weight probs and help to shrink the fibroids?
If I get too hypER (I'm currently hypERthyroid not hypO as I used to be), my Free T3 is up and I lose weight.
{{{hugs}}} :-)
I did want to encourage you and let you know that it is possible to lose weight when you're hypothyroid, but I'm discovering the hard way that it definitely takes longer than normal and requires a LOT of effort.....much more than I anticipated, as far as exercise goes. I found that healthy eating and exercising didn't work until I upped my exercise to be at least 5 days a week. When I was only doing about 2-3 days of exercise, the lbs weren't budging. I also notice that putting in a good 45 min to an hour of some kind of cardio helps more than doing only a 20-30 minute workout, but when I started I had to start at 20-30 minutes as I hadn't exercised in so long and I was so out of shape. I still am, but am slowly improving. I do a lot of power walking DVDS and use my elliptical and treadmill.
I think it royally sucks that its so tough for us hypothroid folks to lose weight and its crappy that it takes twice as long and a a great deal of effort, but its possible.
I actually have an appointment with a nutritionist next week, so I'll let you guys know if she has any tips for hypothyroid folks as far as healthy eating and weight loss.
I got some T3 tabs off ebay last night to try, body builders tale them to shift weight fast before weight ins so hopefully it should help me shift some weight.
Also changing to taking tablets at night aswell have always taken then in morning with breakfast since 23 months old, no -one ever told us about food or milk interefering with thyroxine absorption.
Doctors in UK wont prescribe armour on the NHS, and they wouldnt give me combined pill I asked before so as they arent gonna help me I'll just have to try it out myself and hope it works.
I have bene tryng for 6 months and cant get under 12 stone but part of it is cos or large fibroid. I'm trying progesterone cream to try and shrink that too and T3 is meant to help you produce progesterone so hopefully these will work to shrink my tummy, as the rest of me isnt fat.
I was wondering if anyone tried the Bullseye diet. My sis had metabolic syndrome and way overweight. She lost over 100 lbs in a bit over a year.

I went on it and lost a good amount of weight but went off the diet and gained it back and then some. Now I'm having a tough time of losing due to messed up chemistry (auto accident/pain/stress etc) But I'm back on the Bullseye.
It's worth a try. They have a diabetic version and other versions I believe.
They have a book out. It used be online but I can't find the link now.
If I find it I'll post it.
The one I tried is not pills or supplements, it's a circle of safe foods/moderate foods/don't eat foods based on the glycemic index.
Like 4- 6 whole wheat servings daily - 2 or 3 dairy - 2 fruit daily - not sure how many protein as I'm veggie so I substitute cheese and peanut butter. Oh vegetables are very important. I'm thinking I might be stalled at weight loss as I've skipped veggies this entire week. I lost 9 lbs since 8/7 but the past week lost nothing.
Katilea - look for a list of low index glycemic foods. That's the basis of the bullseye diet of years ago.
huggies - sorry for all these posts :-)
