So sorry to hear of your issues!

If your Synthroid dose is small, it's unlikely to cause problems so soon since all T4 meds take time to build in the system. (T4 has a 7-day half life).

The flu-like feeling is a typical hypo symptom. You may recall me telling you that it's not uncommon to have symptoms worsen or new ones develop after starting meds/dose adjustments.

Why weren't you able to stay on Armour?

Epilepsy is an electrical disorder of the brain - I can't see how thyroid meds would make it worse.

However, it's entirely possible for inappropriate thyroid levels to cause seizures.

Thank You cd3764, I was hoping you would reply. I am just so frusterated right now. She claims that the hyperthyroid symptoms aren't felt by the patient with synthroid vs Armour. I was experiencing palpations at my doctor visit, but I kept telling them i wasn't feeling them, so I didn't know. It didn't bother me, and the hot flashes went away, so I really don't know why she switched me. I figured I would give this a week or two and if I still feel sick then I'm calling her and going back to Armour. I felt fine on Armour. I just felt like crap and exhausted all the time because I was off of it for a month (due to hyperthyroid) and then it came back down to hypothyroid. They just can't get my levels to stabalize. It's so frusterating. Just had another ultrasound on the right side of my neck, I have two very enlarged lymph nodes and my endo wants to be sure whats going on with them, I'm glad she is doing something right, but after this, I may be going to the mayo clinic and see if they have better treatment options. Or ideas.

Oh and I figured it wouldn't do anything to cause seizures, my husband just seems to think so, and my head pressure is getting worse, so I'll find out on tuesday what's going on with that.

Also, this is very personal, but I have been bleeding for almost a month straight and my ob says there is nothing wrong, it's got to be from my thyroid issues. I'm soooo tired of all of this. I really don't know what to do.

There's another type of therapy that could work for someone in your situation.

It's called Block and Replace Therapy.

Basically, the patient takes a small dose of anti-thyroid drug (either 5mg Tapazole/methimazole or 50mg PTU). This blocks the production of thyroid hormone and can be helpful when a thyroid is erratically releasing hormone.

In addition to the anti-thyroid drug, the patient will also take whatever dose of thyroid hormone replacement (Armour is one type) to prevent hypothyroidism.

Even though you went hyper on Armour, there was no need for your doctor to take you completely off of it. A dose reduction usually takes care of things in these types of situations.

I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time. I can tell you this much, I had nothing but hyper symptoms while I was on synthroid. However, I did have palpitations prior to even starting meds and I was as HYPO as they get. It can be a symptom, it can be a side effect, it can also be adrenal fatigue (which is common with those of us that suffer with low thyroid). I know the headaches were terrible for me before I even know I had a thyroid problem. I mean MIGRAINES, which are something I never had before in my life. There are so may symptoms, it does get frustrating trying to decipher what's what. I have swollen lymph nodes in my neck as well, and I believe that is another symptom. I will need to get it checked out too though, as I've been having shortness of breathe, so I'm slightly concerned they are related. I wish you all the best, I know first hand that this is a very hard thing to deal with. You are not alone, I assure you.
