If synthroid is not working for you, maybe you should switch meds. Perhaps the natural thyroid med will work for you. It has worked for others on here who had no success with the synthetic meds. I am on Levothyroxine, just started a few days ago, so I don't know how it will work on me. If it doesn't I think I will switch too. I sure hope that you find something that works for you Momshere! It is sad that you have to suffer so much. Here for you if you need to talk!

I'm on 100mcg of Eltroxin (a brand of levothyroxine) and I recently asked for a blood test hoping my doctor would increase it as I've got symptoms indicating I'm hypo - i.e. can't get warm, losing hair, depression, constipation etc. but now that I've read your post I'm concerned as I already have terrible anxiety. I have fibromyalgia so I have the aches and pains and the brain fog regardless. I've tried Armour for 6 months a few years ago and didn't find it made any difference but I've always wondered if I tried it for long enough and whether it's a good idea to keep upping my dose of thyroxine. I felt my best last summer and I'd gone from 75 to 100 in the May. I find it all very confusing (brain fog!). I asked for a comprehensive test and I think my GP has only done the TSH so I'm feeling hopeless that I'll get adequate care from her... It's pretty much left to me to make the decisions. I have found Endos are no better and just dismiss my concerns and I don't even know if I have Hashimotos. Anyway the point is I echo your post by asking - how long does it take for a change in meds to take effect? Also is it normal to have to keep increasing meds whether on synthetic or natural or is that only on synthetic?

i was given a too high dose and had side effects within days. I felt everything you felt big time and it defintaely sounds like too much meds. Have you considered seeing a new endochrinologist?

Thanks for responding to me Barbell. Looking back at my notes I see I had an antibody test (TPO) 3 years ago (not sure if I've had one since) and at that time it was 23. I assume that is not a significant number?? My thyroid does not look to be enlarged but I do have throat problems leading me to wonder if it's pressing in on me which include difficulty clearing my throat/swallowing and a tightness like I'm being strangled. I've never had an ultrasound and I'm afraid to ask for tests as when I do push for things I am treated as if I am insane (history of mental illness results in no one listening...). But to be fair your situation sounds much more troubling than mine so I feel I may be worrying over very little. Thanks for the best wishes. The situation in the NHS seems to be pretty hopeless in terms of getting a thorough investigation/adequate care and as the Armour had no miraculous effect on me I am no position to fight that fight again (and it was a fight). Still I have always felt the root of my problems lay in my hormones and I would love to know for sure.

See an endochrinologist or a new one! I was really unhappy with mine for a long time, I never felt like he believed me, then I switched and it was much better. The new one believed me and had ways of helping that seemed really interesting, he had me take half of a pill once a week and this worked! You should never be unhappy with your doctor if you can help it!

I want to thank all of you ladies who have replied to my post. They have all been helpful. I go back to my internalist in about a month, and yes he will hear me loud and clear how I have been feeling. He may just have a bald headed crazy woman on his hands,LOL!! Again thank you:)

Just wondering if the 100 mcg was not enough and the 125 mcg is too much, would taking it 112 1/2 mcg work? If this doctor doesn't work out, definitely look for another willing to work with you.
