Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
Yes, you will need to take thyroid meds for life, please, please know that ... and, you will need to have your levels checked often. At least once a year. When you are adjusting meds, every three months.
Thyroid is NOT something to mess with. It's like the thermostat in your car. It regulates everything. And, when it goes out, you car is useless.
.i have been diagnosed hypo since 17. I am now 57. So, I know a few things. And, high BP is part of the issue. Catch it before it gets too high. It can quickly lead to heart issues.

Can someone explain to me where high blood pressure fits into the HYPO situation?
I started with Hyperthyroidism/Graves Disease and my metabolism was on very high as well as, getting heart palpitations and mild high blood pressure (I was 70/110 before anything ever started). And, I was jittery and anxious and feeling my heart beat faster than usual. So the norm was 110/70 but it was going much faster than that. One year later, off meds because meds worked so well my blood tests were showing I was going into the HYPO area. And, experiencing HYPO symptoms. The strange thing is I am feeling heart flutters and some increase in blood pressure.
I thought EVERYTHING slows down when going HYPO. My metabolism did. My focus/memory did. Why not the blood pressure.
Why is this so confusing?
Is it silly of me to think in black and white patterns?
I just want to keep each thyroid condition in a box - one fast, one slow.
I wonder if my supplement, “Thyroid Calm” which helped with my HYPER symptoms (especially, the heart palpitations) is okay when I feel the HYPO symptoms, too.
So confused over yo-yo ing with HYPER and HYPO symptoms.
Kg1130,
Sorry to hear you are experiencing stomach issues. I am, too. Not sure if you knew but our immune system is directly connected to our digestive system. And, since Graves Disease and Hashimoto’s Disease (HYPO) are auto-immune diseases, that is where a lot of the triggers are for the symptoms we feel (like the high blood pressure) Have you changed your diet? It makes all the difference. If what you are eating is triggering the high blood pressure, then try to change the way you eat. BTW, I hated taking pills (for anything) let alone the thyroid.....the doctors wanted me to take beta blockers for my high blood pressure (in the beginning) I chose not to. My Endo. Recommended the supplement with the ATD/MMI - when my numbers got better, the symptoms (high BP) went away.
There are things that can help calm you - Lemon Balm Heral tea. I hope some of this information is helpful. Take Care.
