Hello - Looking for anyone that might have some advise. Got a call today that my TSH was 4.97, told to see my primary care for this. Now, do I see my primary care who will most likely order repeat blood work and then send me to an endocrinologist of do I just find an endocrinologist and take out the middle man (and the expense of the middle man). This is totally new territory for me. Thanks

You may want to ask to be tested for antiboidies to find out if you have Hashimotos. Also, when you see your primary ask to have your Free T3 and Free T4 (TSH is only a pituitary hormone) tested. This is a better indication of your thyroid health. You didn't mention symptoms, but you probably have them and have dismissed them.Your primary may treat you and it may be better than having an endocrinologist.
You should check out all of the past posts. Some good information. Sorry that you were dx, but it's a step in the journey!

StillListing shared good advice!

Many of us here find that Endos are not helpful with thyroid care. They seem to be most helpful with other issues such as diabetes. A good primary care doc can help you with thyroid care.

As mentioned, the most helpful thyroid tests are Free T3, Free T4, thyroid antibodies (checks for Hashimoto's or Grave's AI disease), Reverse T3, and lastly TSH test.
