I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism over the phone last week after having my labs drawn. I received no answers or anything just told to take Synthroid and have my labs redrawn in a month. My TSH was 17.17 and my free Thyroxine was .70
I am not sure what to do or if I need to ask for any different labs I just need help

Make an appointment to see your doctor to discuss the results. Make a list of questions to ask and don't leave until you have the answers.

You should definitely start to take the Synthroid. Your TSH is very high. Healthy people have a TSH of 1. I don't know how your doctor could give you a diagnosis over the phone. You should look for another doctor who can spend some time w/you. Some people take different types of thyroid meds(Synthroid, Armour Thyroid, Cytomel) so you have to take the medication that works best for you. As far as labs go, you should have the doctor test Free T3 and Frees T4 as well. I'm not sure if there is still a Thyroid resources section on this website, but if there is and you can find it, you should look at it. Lots of good websites and info for hypo newbies. Good luck. I have hypo. I've been on Synthroid for several years. Once it balances out in your system and you get your labs in range, you should feel better in general. My PCP manages mine, but she and I have a great relationship and she has some extra training in this area, so I'm very comfortable with her managing my thyroid care. If you don't have a dr like that, try to find an endocrinologist who can get you started out right. There's also good resources online that give you a foundation, such as Mayo Clinic's website.
