I just went to my appointment with my endocrinologist last week because my hair is falling out again. My levels were too high so he wants to reduce it one half of a 100mcg pill one day a week and continue taking the whole 100mcg pill the other 6 days. Then he wants me to come back in 6 weeks for a recheck. I can't afford to lose any more hair! Will reducing my synthroid a half of a pill only one day a week do anything?
Why do I have to wait 6 weeks to be rechecked? I might not have any hair left by then. This will be the second time in about five months that he has had to reduce my meds. He even made comments about synthroid should not be causing my hair problems! Help!!!

From what I understand, Synthroid takes six weeks to show changes in thyroid levels (Free T4).

I am taking a multi-vitamin, biotin, and a good hair and nail vitamin. I mentioned Armour to my doctor and he got somewhat nasty, and told me it was a pig hormone. Did your hair come back after you got off synthroid? Did an endocrinologist prescribe Armour or was it a different type of doctor?
