Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
From what I understand, it's possible to develop other autoimmune diseases. However, it seems that it's more common for people to have other autoimmune diseases and then develop autoimmune thyroid disease.
Obviously, those of us with autoimmune thyroid disease have immune systems that have gone haywire.
So, anything we can do to calm the immune system will be to our benefit.
Here's a link to an article that discusses thyroid disease triggers - obviously, we will all benefit from avoiding them.

You might be interested in researching rhodiola rosea....30 years' worth of scientific studies have shown it to be quite effective at modulating the immune system. I recently read "The Rhodiola Revolution"...the link below contains much of the same info:

After reading about it online and reading the book, I started supplementing 100mg/day. I think you know I've been doing well for awhile now. Well, I feel even better after starting rhodiola.
I know it's easier said than done but, please try not to worry. So many things can make our blood levels go "off" and then they settle down by the time of the next set of labs.
Just keep taking good care of yourself - it's the best thing you can do.
(SLE) LUPUS is one of the other wonderful diseases I have and it does affect the kidneys as well as everything else vital to living.
One thing with auto-immune diseases is to not pay interest on trouble until it occurs (aka don't worry until it happens) because it just causes more un-necessary stress which causes big flares in the diseases. I know it's easier said than done, but inflammation is the enemy - try to focus on that (diet, hydration, and meditation when possible). Otherwise you'll drive yourself into a deeper depression (I've been there).
You might ask a GP to test you for LUPUS or other auto-immune diseases if your levels don't improve. You might want to check out www.lupus.org for more info.

Many autoimmunes run together but it isn't the rule. There is nothing you can really do to prevent it from happening. No scan is going to stop it from happening because like Hashimoto's there is no definitive preventative measures at this time.
My Mom has two autoimmune diseases herself. We have different ones though.
Make sure you follow up on your blood results, but don't borrow trouble. Don't worry until you have to....that is what I have learned. Everyone else gave great advice. Lots of (((Hugs)))
