Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
Heart palpitations are common in hypothyroid patients. Extremely common. But, the heart...well, it's the heart, so use your best judgement.
When hyper - I feel like my heart is beating super fast, but I'm not getting enough oxygen or something. Also weird, and scary.
The issue with you now is this: Which are you? Hypo or Hyper? And, do you have a history of heart disease? Get labs (obviously) and use your best judgement on getting a cardio workup.
I ended up complaining to my health insurer, and they were great! They put me in touch with the lab directly and I had the results (2 days ago) within an hour.
Unfortunately, the idiot "doctor" didn't order the right tests. He gid my TSH and Free T$ - and that is IT for thyroid (for which he is supposedly treating me).
Then he somehow failed to notice that my red blood count is below the range and the other indicators for anemia were all ALMOST out of range.
So - the chances are really good that by now (8 weeks after the labs) I am probably anemic.
What a jerk!
I would go to my primary care doctor, but she is on vacation.
Has anyone ever had experience going directly to a lab?
I am hypo, by the way.
TSH was .67 (.4-4.5)
Free T4 was 1.1 (.8-1.8)
I have gone directly to the lab - I ordered my labs online and showed up at a labcorp facility where they took blood and mailed me my results (emailed). Not a big deal.
The issue will be getting a med increase since your doc is only looking at your TSH- IF that. And/or getting something for your anemia.
I had that too on the synthetics and the dr kept increasing the meds ! I was in and out of ER all the time. The heart palps are not good for your heart....I quit my job and searched for an answer....Armour Thyoid was it.. I started on a low dose after finding a decent dr and it saved my life literally...don't give up ! (hugs)
My doctor urged me to cut down on the T3 and that seems to have helped, but although I like this doctor very much, she is not really taking a functional/ integrative approach.
I was lucky to find another doctor who DOES have this training, but I couldn't get an appointment until July 10th....
I guess I will have to jitter a bit until then...
Thanks so much for "keeping me company!!!!"
