Thanks for the tip about "tongue to roof of mouth" that can stop the initiation of hyperventilating. I hope to remember to try it.
My migraines are allergic in nature. I usually have trouble breathing and get panic which leads to short inhales through nose and mouth. I do get relief using a small paper bag to breathe with inhaling the exhales that went into the bag. The bag covers both my nose and my mouth. It doesn't take very long- maybe 10 inhales, at most 20 breaths. An old-fashioned remedy.
It's something about the balance of carbon dioxide to oxygen that gets me hyperventilating in the first place. The bags come with prescriptions or maybe at the health food store.
Guess if the "tongue fix" doesn't work you could try the paper bag.

wonder if you need your breath checked by an allergy or immune type doc. They have a test that you exhale as deeply as you can and then breathe your strongest exhale into this tube and it measures how much oxygen you just inhaled and exhaled. Abnormalities can show up with the test. Just a thought. BTW I felt very concerned about you, so prayed for you. You may need more time to heal from the mugging.

I have had that lung capacity test run and it was normal. I now think this issue is caused by anxiety and hyperventilating, which goes hand in hand with anxiety, and anxiety goes hand in hand with being hypo and going through titration.
The tongue on the roof of the mouth works sometimes if its not gotten out of hand already. The paper bag works but for me very difficult to administer during a breathing alert.
Its also allergy season. I have not had allergies for many years, like 20 years, but this year, when I am almost optimal, my allergies are horrendous, completely debilitating, which affects not only my breathing but all kinds of other congestion. Forgot how horrible allergies are, especially during titration, a first for me. Not good.
