Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. I put my drugs in a medicine container on my night stand every night, so it will be available in the morning. A couple of weeks ago, the tiny pill fell on the floor and I didn't take it and wasn't aware. The next couple of days I felt really horrible and couldn't figure out why. That's when I saw the pill on the floor....
Thyroid medication or a good thyroid is the basis or fuel for a well run machine (your body). It's amazing, but your car wouldn't run properly without gas, oil, and water...(hormones).
Even though you started taking meds relatively recently, as far as I can tell it will always have an effect.
Remember to take the meds on an empty stomach with water, at least 30 minutes before anything else. No daily vitamins if they contain calcium for at least 4 hours after the drug.
I think the internet is phenomenal and am glad that you finally found help.Congratulations on catching it early. My TSH was 122!
"Early" meaning that your TSH was not that high. Everything is relative...
I have suffered from fatigue or low-energy my entire life. I too, had symptoms for at least 10 years prior to diagnosis. I looked like an alien, couldn't smell /taste, my kidneys and liver were shutting down, skin orange, felt psychotic, depressed, walked like I was drunk, and couldn't remember where I left the car or if I had fed the dog. I also had panic attacks and my weight varied greatly.
I even have a dent on the roof of my car, because a signal arm for an oncoming train was coming down and I didn't know what to do.
Hope that you feel better soon.
Sorry to hear of all you've endured and happy for you that you're finally on the path to wellness!
I, too, had symptoms after a missed dose.
I now keep my T4 in a pillminder on my nightstand and leave the compartment lid open after taking my dose in the hopes I'd notice it closed if I missed a dose.
I also set my cell phone alarm to remind me to take my PM T3 dose since I can be anywhere at the time I need to take it.
