hi all --
happy to have found you all --- reading through some of the posts, you guys know the story already - lol, but here it is --
i was just 'officially' diagnosed today - and start synthroid tomorrow.
i bet i've had this for a REALLY long time. i successfully have been able to avoid any and all blood-work for at least 10 years -- and i finally told myself i was being ridiculous, and had the convo with the doc.
when i went in today for the results -- i was SO anxious about what the report would say, my BP was 150/90, and my heart rate was 96. lol. i had myself convinced that everything and anything would be bad on the report -- but, the only this that was a mess was my TSH. i have no idea what the parameters are, but mine was at 13.2
it all makes sense now -- things i was figuring were stress (gawd knows we've had a lot of that going on recently - jobs, moves, we've had a time of it) looks like it really may be from the thyroid -
so ---
i haven't even really processed anything yet -- i'm being positive about it all -- get those meds going and maybe i'll see some differences in how i feel.
so -- where do i start? what should i change - or do? will the med just sort of "fix" things on it's own --- anything you guys want to throw at me -- i'd love ;)

Taking the medication is going to be a bit of a process. Usually you start out at a low dose, take that for 4-6 weeks, and then retest all of your thyroid levels. If that dose isn't enough then your doctor revises your prescription up and you take that for 4-6 weeks and then retest. Rinse and repeat. :) Eventually you'll hit the sweet spot where you're at just the right dose and things will feel better, but it is going to be a bit of a process to get there.
You also need to make sure you keep copies of all of your thyroid lab work. And testing TSH isn't enough - your doctor also needs to be testing Free T3 and Free T4.
