I am looking at his results and I am thinking he might just be borderline hypo... but - what do I know..... I am also wondering if the right tests were taken - don't think I see Free T3 ????

Would love your thoughts:

TSH 4.470 (.450 - 4.50)
Thyroxine T4 6.3 (4.5 -12)
T3 Uptake 30 (24-29)
T3 Triiiodothyronine 85 (71-180)
Free Thyroxine 1.9 (1.2 - 4.9)

If he has symptoms, then it's not borderline. If there's no symptoms, most docs would say it's borderline.

Here's the breakdown:

His TSH is elevated. It's not over the top of the range, but it's close enough for horse-shoes, hand-grenades, and hypothyroidism. ;)

Free T4:
1.200 -4.900
Result: 1.900
Range: 18.92%

FYI - I recently had a family member with similar results. The doc rx'd medication only after we listed a litany of symptoms. A few weeks later- voila, most of the symptoms were gone.

Sorry, that's percent of range: 18.92% - and, no, I couldn't stand upright with that level of Free T4.

You are sooooo wonderful!!! His symptoms just seems a bit too "familiar...." Brain fog, fatigue, and muscle tremors - maybe due to undiagnosed hypoglycemia from the hypothyroidism???? The poor guy! He is like a brother to me - hate to see him feeling poorly.

Tell him to put up an argument. He's soooo close on the TSH test to being "clinically hypothyroid". That, plus symptoms AND a VERY LOW Free T4 should warrant medication.

T3 Uptake is not reliable these days
Free forms of T3 and T4 are important
Blood test itself is not very reliable. Usually if
clinical picture is present treatment could be initiated
even with normal blood test.

Isn't it astonishing how much ignorance there is in the medical establishment? It really makes you wonder just how reliable our care is in general, for ALL diseases and disorders.... Scary scary stuff.
