Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...

So - I guess the answer is just to be patient while we titrate. I am so lucky that my doctor is open-minded.
I will see her on Friday. In the meantime, I am not going to go to the gym today, which just KILLS me, but I will close the door on my office and do some stretching for about 40 minutes.
Thanks, as always, MB!!!!!! xoxoxo
FYI: I was dx'd with fibro and the doctor who did it was a specialist - she said something that made me cry, "You will be unable to funciton in about 2-3 months at this rate." Then she rx'd lyrica...which sent me into anaphalxis.
I'm tellin' ya, thyroid disease is grossly under-estimated by our medical professionals.
He didn't even really LOOK at the blood tests I gave him or read the other medical records I sent.
He said with a straight face," You know, people with hypo-thyroidism have trouble losing weight..."
GOSH!!!! I didn't know that, did I????
And then he told me that he isn't sure I have fibromyalgia, but it might be bursitis..... RIGHT! Bursitis that just HAPPENS to locate itself every single place in my body, even where there are no bursa, and especially where the Ugly 18 Trigger Points are????
He then told me to see a physical therapist... because the physical therapist he wants me to see is "a good diagnostician...." Well - isn't that kind of supposed to be the job of the rheumatologist????
Unreal.
I got the feeling that the appointment was just about winding up, so I very tactfully asked," Do you think you could take a look at my T4 levels?"
And so he did.
And that's when the Light Bulb apparently went off and he figured out that I was on a very slight dosage of synth & decided to increase it....
Do you believe this?
Yes - of course you do!
So, this morning, instead of waiting to fill the new script for double the dosage of the synth, DR. MARIPOSA decided to simply cut her synth pill in half and take 1.5 times the prior dosage to see what happens.... AND also decided to take half the cytomel with breakfast...
The results? I am already DEFINITELY less stiff, although it is not all that much.
TA-DAH!
I really want to thank all my Mentors on this site - especially Butterfly and CD!!!! Without your guidance, I would have been in a real pickle, indeed!
So
I'm telling you, it's pretty scary that we have to be our own health care advocates, but they'll friggin kill us if we aren't. The days of "trusting" our HCP's is over. We have to go armed with info, or suffer the consequences. It wasn't that long ago that a PA called to tell me to stop my armour (over half my thyroid supplementation). I didn't argue, just said, "Ok" and booked an apt with someone else. Ugh. Bursa all over your body - bwahahahaha.
However, I'm so glad you got some more meds! And your are correct to start out slow and steady. You probably already know this, but synthroid will take about 4 weeks to get into your system - while the cytomel is fairly quick (hours). Just be sure to get labs (Free T4 /Free T3) in four to six weeks, K? That'll tell ya where you are...and since you have a higher rx than you're actually taking - you can self adjust if needed.
Yay! Mariposa!
