Eyebrows

My 11 year old son is losing eyebrow hairs on his right eyebrows.He has not been diagnosed with any thyroid ailments. I have hypothyroid. Could it be because of thyroid ??He has eczema though. His thyroid tests came back normal(tsh). Has anybody dealt with this eyebrow issue?

Children -can- have hypothyroidism. It's not unusual. If they also drew a Free T4 test, please post the ranges and the result. Did the doc say that his FT4 looked ok for an 11 yr old boy?

At 11, so many things can go awry. What's your GP saying?

My son's thyroid tests were done last summer when he had an eczema flare up. The doc said he has no thyroid issues and I need not be concerned.
I am seeing the pediatrician again this week and I'll post the thyroid results. You are right. Kids can have various symptoms but since I have thyroid issues,I'm always asking them to check it.

A lot of doctors only test for TSH when looking at the thyroid, and that's not enough. If they run labs again make sure they also test his Free T4 and Free T3 so that you can have a full picture of what's going on with the thyroid. Good luck!

Sort of an off topic thought... could he be sort of tugging at them? sometimes when kids are nervous or just bored they do weird stuff like pull at eyelashes, twirl their hair or pull at eyebrows...
also does he sleep primarily on that side?

Kids can be hypo but it seems like maybe there could be another answer and I'd think it would be bilateral.

I have thick eye brows at the end, but the hair now is sparse at the ends, I think I look like a poor owl thats been drenched in rain :-)
