I've had a dry cough since I had my ultrasound of my thyroid two months ago to check for a goiter and the ultrasound was normal and so were all of my labs (TSH, T3 & T4). I've been coughing so bad lately, that I'm starting to throw up sometimes. I went to the doc yesterday and he said I could have an enlarged thyroid (I have hypothyroidism & take Synthroid 50 mcg) or it could be allergies. He had me do chest and sinus x-rays and also, gave me an inhaler, nasal spray, Prevacid and a cough suppressant. When he felt my neck, afterwards, I coughed like crazy!! What is the treatment for an enlarged thyroid or is there one?

If all you had tested for thyroid function was TSH, T3 and T4, you are not getting the correct tests and those results will tell you nothing useful. Ask your doctor for FREE T3 and FREE T4 labs, then post them here and we can tell you if your'e levels are "normal" or not given the fact that you have already been diagnosed hypo. Curious to know how that diagnosis was attained by your doctor, by TSH?
You say your doctor said you "could" have an enlarged thyroid. What does that mean? Didnt you just have the ultrasound and it was "normal"? Did your doctor examine your neck or did he just guess?
Depending on where you live, its high allergy season in the Northeast right now and in many part of Calif. All your symptoms sound to be allergy but with your hypo diagnosis and the tenderness in your neck area which prompts a cough, you might want to investigate further with the correct thyroid labs.
