Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Advanced hypothyroidism may cause severe complications, the most serious one of which is...
The adrenal issue is vitally important too, and is rarely addressed in treatment, (Endos for the most part, 99% dont think Adrenal Fatigue even exists!!!!!) Even on this forum, its rarely discussed. And there isnt a hypoadrenal support group here either. There seems to be some disconnect of information regarding adrenal health and thyroid health, you CANNOT have one without the other, yet its rarely spoken about.
I'm trying to get my doctors to become aware that unless the adrenals are optimized thyroid isn't going to work properly, even with thyroid hormone supplementation! It even states this fact in the fine print of Sinthroid and Armour etc!!
With your low cortisol levels, what exactly did your doctor say to you besides telling you to go elsewhere for treatment? Was he not concerned? Was he too ignorant to even suggest treatment for you?
Your new practitioner, the integrative doctor, what is HER plan for you?
You can't wait 4 months for another appt. The longer we have low levels of thyroid and adrenal hormones, the sicker we get. Sometimes that fact is overlooked or not discussed.
The woman in the video clip mentions feeling better after one MONTH.
I doubt if she was actually better after a month but as she says, that was TEN YEARS AGO, her memory must have dimmed a bit. I never believe those feel quick stories. It might be possible to feel a little relief while the meds start to kick in but then when titration starts, the body tends to accept very slowly the supplements until they are optimized. That is the sponge analogy cd talks about. The sponge is either full or not. You are either optimal or not. There is no middle ground at least for me.
WTF!! Bloody hell, what I keep meaning to write is
FEEL GOOD QUICK stories. A bout of brain fog today, just booked a flight of 5 thousand miles to the wrong city. Dont mind me.
At my first meeting with my pcp, before dx of hypothyroid, she said that likely I had HypoT based off my symptoms before seeing bloodwork. The dr said she had HypoT so she did have an understanding of the disease. But she told me that if adrenals needed worked on that that isn't her specialty, that I would need to see an endo or another doctor. So I knew that from the get-go. Fast forward, I get Dx of HypoT and after my own research and knowledge decide something still isn't right so I ordered my own saliva cortisol test last fall. Started the hunt to find an 'adrenal' doctor and found the Integrative doctor this February.
--Integrative Dr ordered hair analysis, bloodwork, and saliva cortisol test (she does like saliva tests). Dr tells me to treat with A-Drenal which is an adaptogen mix as well as adrenal glandular. Took it for awhile but it makes me feel worse so I have stopped taking it. Dr has me scheduled for July for f/up visit.
Like I said in the other post, I am tired of this wait and see thing all Drs seem to want to do. Meanwhile I feel terrible.
Good to hear you have taken control of your own health, that is essential any way you can get it. This forum has helped me 100%, far more than any doctor has.
Cortef is in your near future. Dont put it off like I did. Go for it now. As I said, you cant wait that long for a follow-up appointment, you are wasting time and losing life doing that. Life is a terrible thing to waste but if you listen to your doctor, you will never be well, its their business to keep you sick. FYI.
