Hypothyroidism Support Group

There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. Why don't you suggest that she up yours to 120 now with another 6 week lab slip. Have the doc have the lab send you a copy of the results. That way if it slips past the doc you can bug the doc to raise it to 150.
When you have low FT4- your cholesterol will rise...(it makes sense - everything is sluggish!)
I don't see my doc until October, but I have 2 lab slips and that was the plan she drew up for me. The second lab slip is a "maybe I'll need it"
Good luck and don't worry!
All too many doctors seem to think that thyroid patients asking for a higher dose are looking for a quick fix to weight loss.
I suspect you have enough of the "standard" hypo symptoms that you can share with the doctor that *should* help you plead your case. (being cold, overly fatigued, constipated, etc.)
Be honest about everything, whether you think there may be another cause or not...the worst case scenario is that your doc will not consider the relatedness, but the upside is that your doc will be able to relate alot of symptoms.
I was not particularly in tune at my last appt; but came home and referenced the calendar and it helped. I have to write things down these days. I wrote my doc (Endo) and don't expect a response.
My biggest gain with Armour was/is brain power.
When I wrote of my symptoms I recognized that I dismissed: my face was puffy; my weight distribution was weird; the pores on my face were huge; I was still tired with waning energy (Yeah, that's fatigue!). My heels were dry, etc.
To be an advocate for yourself, you sometimes have to be a whiner. Here I was just thinking if I had my "brain", all was good.
Being cold is a low T3 - when I told the first endo - he told me to keep my clothes on...
Be aware that because you are justified in your rationale, it won't necessarily be received well. Take the energy that we can provide here and stand up with resolution and diplomacy. Maybe this isn't the right doc. You never know until you try to work with them....
Best of luck at your appointment! (I'm there with you - I know...)
