Desiccated Thyroid

By any chance, does anyone know how long it takes for desiccated thyroid to get out of your system?

Usually the T-3 in Armour should only last a couple of days maybe but the T-4, that takes 6 weeks to build up.Maybe quicker to get out, or to feel symptoms.

I was just wondering because my dr wanted to wait 8 weeks before running new bloodwork. 8 REALLY LONG WEEKS!!!!

Blood work should be run every six weeks.

It's been every three months since my thyroid was removed. We're up to a year now, and since my T4 dosage increase to 200 mcg and T3 to 10 mcg, I'm feeling better. If I just didn't have to eat oatmeal twice a day to keep things moving...

My CPAP humidifier keeps my eyes moist so no more dry eyes.

T3 is the immediate use thyroid hormone, and T4 has to be stored in the body for future conversion to T3 as needed.

I'm sure you know that Armour contains both T3 and T4.

T3 has a short half-life and will be out of your system within a few days.

T4 has a 7-day half-life so your last dose of Armour would be out of your system 2 wks. after you took it.

What's going on that you apparently are no longer taking Armour and your doctor wants to wait 8 wks. before new labs?

I started taking desiccated thyroid BEFORE I saw my dr. I'm sure that pissed her off. I was self medicating. And I know that is wrong, but you all know how horrible you feel and I was desperate to feel better. She had me stop taking everything for 1week and then tested me. My Th was .07 so I was Hyper. So I guess she wanted to be sure that nothing was in my system when she ran the blood work again. I ordered my own tests one month after not taking anything and my TSH went to 2.1. And all my other numbers are in the low end of normal. I want to make an appointment with a new dr and have the old drs blood work taken and forward it to him. I haven't taken anything for 5 weeks now.
