Cytomel didn't work for me at all either. I took the lowest dose with 50 mcg of Synthroid. I felt the effects within two hours after taking. I barely made it home at lunch & by evening when my husband came home was hysterical. I then waited until the weekend & cut a pill in half & took 1/4 in the morning & 1/4 in the afternoon. I tried for a full month with the last week taking half in the morning & half in the afternoon. I finally gave up! The only positive effect was I became warmer. The negative effects were severe headaches, shoulder pains, dizziness, muscle weakness, high blood pressure, pounding heart, chest tightness & pain. It's definitely not for everyone. I was so disappointed that it didn't work for me. Before I had a total thyroidectomy, my TSH was pretty much nonexistent. My natural T3 was a little too high. My T4 was on the low side. I have yet to find a balance.

How long after stopping the cytomel did you feel better?
I just want to feel normal again!

It took around a month. The tightness in my neck & shoulders was horrible. But remember, I tried for a little over a month. But then I am still struggling with thyroid imbalance. I am going to try & get a prescription for Nature-Throid or Armour. Levothyroxine & now Synthroid are not working for me. So much trouble with my heart! Since you have taken it only a week, you should be back to normal within two weeks. Have you considered just taking half?

I saw my endo who said the medicine is making me all crazy.
She is upping my synthroid dode and no more cytomel.

What were your T3 and T4 results?

I've been on Cytomel (T3) 10 mcg and Levoxyl (T4)75 mcg for two years. I don't convert T4 to T3. Last Total T3 was 65 (range: 97-178).
My problem is that if I don't take Cytomel , my heart rate drops (was on a monitor and my heart rate dropped to 38 during the night. I am not an athlete). My cardiologist feels that I need the Cytomel to keep my heart rate normal.
My Vit D was also on the low side, 33.8 (range: 32.0-100) and the endo told me to take 5,000 u/day. I had been taking 750 u/day and I have noticed since I increased the Vit D my afternoon fatigue is just about gone. New studies on Vit D are showing that we should be taking at least 5,000 u/day and can take up to 10,000 u/day without it being toxic.

The Cytomel may have pushed you into the hyper range. Cut the dose in half or drop it and see what happens. Keep a journal so you can show your doctor how it affects you.

Your doc should have lowered the synthroid before adding cytomel. For instance, .5 cytomel + .50 synthroid = .75 synthroid (alone)

Your doctor should've checked your Free T3 level before starting you on the T3 med.
