Hi I'm new here with a question.
I had a hysterectomy in August and since then my thyroid levels have been off. My TSH was 1.7 in June before my surgery. It was 3.5 a few weeks after my hysterectomy which my gynocologist said was high normal so she prescribed 25mg of synthroid. I was exhausted and having a hard time with recovery and she thought maybe my thyroid was part of the problem.
I went to get it retested 6 weeks after being on the synthroid and it went down to 0.60. Now 2 months later it's 1.4. I'm having the worst sweating episodes. They aren't hot flashes. I'm pretty much either sweating or freezing to death with the chills. I'm wondering if I still need the synthroid. I asked PCP whos now managing my synthroid and he told me to keep taking it.

Free T4 .8-1.8 (or whatever the range is) and 1.2 (or whatever your result is).
Your doctor is going by your TSH and you will never feel well if your dosage is adjusted by TSH - PERIOD. You most likely need an adjustment of thyroid meds, but to know which way (up or down) you really need to get a copy of your thyroid test (Free T4 and Free T3).
TSH is a pituitary hormone while the FreeT4 and FreeT3 tests measure the levels of thyroid hormone available for our body's use.
Looking at TSH to judge thyroid status is like looking at the odometer to guess how much gas is in your tank.
Much better to look at the gas gauge (FreeT4 and FreeT3).
Just so you know, a FreeT4 level of 1.1 is VERY low.....
You not only need the Synthroid but a higher dose.....and there's also a chance you need Cytomel (T3).
