As far as I know mouth sores are not a side effect of synthroid but the larger issue here is the 75 mg starting dose. I suggest she runs from that doctor as fast as she can. He is a moron.
Canker sores can be caused by hypothyroidism.....maybe the high starting dose of Synthroid precipitated the typical development of new symptoms one can have.

It might not be a bad idea for your stepdaughter to get checked for Lyme....if both the ELISA and Western Blot tests come back negative, it would be prudent to have Igenex testing.

It's because you reported your stepdaughter's muscle/aches and weakness that I suggested the Lyme testing.
Any type of tingling can not only be hypo but, Lyme.
