Hi everyone, I wondered if anyone else has had severe memory loss, deteriorating cognitive ability, and loss of coordination due to hypothyroidism? Mine seems to be worsening daily. I have nightmares all the time too.
I have Sjogren's Syndrome, chronic pancreatitis, severe ostesporosis, (severely deteriorated left hip, and back), Sciatica, etc. The latest diagnosis is hypothyroidism. I was prescribed 25 mcg. of levothyroxine by my GP. My Endo did bloodwork for thyroid while I was taking the 25 mcg's., and tells me I am ok...no Hashimoto's etc. I called the ofice to tell the Endo I'm feeling real bad, but no call back as yet. I've gained about 10 lbs. without any change in eating habits. I would appreciate any information or advice. Thanks.

Would you happen to have your lab results with ranges and would you know exactly what tests your Endo ran? Especially what he ran to rule out Hashimotos? I can tell you that I was in the hospital a month ago and my Endo discharged me and told me levels were balancing out and I was "fine"...well, I was far from fine. Needless to say, he is no longer my Endo. The best way to know what's really going on is to be sure the proper tests are run (TSH, FreeT4, & FreeT3). I was diagnosed with Hashimotos from tests called Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody and Thyroglobulin Antibody. I also had a test called a TSI (Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglob) which in my case was an indication of Hashitoxicosis.

25mcg levo is a starter dose - it's rarely a therapeutic dose.
Since you still aren't feeling well, I doubt the dose is adequate.

Please know that "OK" bloodwork often means that the results fall within the normal range.
This isn't good enough when we're talking about thyroid function.
You are legally entitled to copies of all blood work results.
Please get a copy of your most recent labs and post the results here. You'll need to post the reference ranges for the FreeT4 and FreeT3 results since different labs use different ranges and your results can only be properly interpreted within the context of your lab's ranges.
Once you post your labs, we can show you the types of levels healthy people would have - I suspect yours are far from that.
