Armour at Night?

I read just today about a LOT of people taking their thyroid medication at night and reporting that they sleep better and feel better the next day. Since I feel no different really taking it in the morning or not taking it at all, I think I am going to give this a try. I also take blood pressure medication and cholesterol medicine at night, but I called the pharmacist and he assured me that it was no problem taking these together.

Does anyone else take their thyroid medicine at night?

I am meg, I am trying it three times a day. It's quite a pita trying not to eat around the pills but it seems to work well for me.

I can certainly feel it if I am a few hours late taking one of the doses though, I probably need to be taking a higher dose but will see with my newest blood work.

Oh and I'm on Armour so it is probably the T3 I can feel working or missing out on.

Forgot to add,.... the first night I took it I didn't sleep well at all and thought it wasn't for me, but I had read how it may be absorbed so much better and had much better T3 uptake so I persevered and no had problems sleeping since. :)

That is great to hear. Tomorrow I will skip my morning dose and get it started at night. I feel exhausted all day every day regardless of the Armour, and felt the same on Synthroid. Not sure what is going on. I know my last blood work three weeks ago showed I am still far off on my numbers....especially TSH.

I do too. I just read the guide that came with my Synthroid Rx. It mentions a whole long list of things not to eat or take within 4 hours of taking Synthroid and says to take it on an empty stomach. The reason for this is that food and/or meds bind with the T4 in the GI tract, effectively keeping it from being absorbed at all..

My endo told me her patients set their alarms for 3:00 AM, get up, take their T4, and go back to sleep. That way, all of the med gets into circulation so it can do its thing. Yeah, like THAT'S gonna happen. I didn't even know there WAS a 3:00 in the morning. LOL.

The main thing is to wait til your stomach is completely empty. Usually for me, that's at least 4 hours after I have eaten.

PS: I just read on your profile that you've got Arnold-Chiari Malformation. So do I. And my Twin, both of her daughters, and my younger son. Not a fun club to belong to, huh?

Oh goodness.....no, having a Chiari Malformation is not fun at all. Have you had decompression surgery? I did five years ago and have not regretted it for a minute!

Last night I had horrible insomnia.....was awake all night and the last time I looked at my clock it said 6 a.m. and I woke up again around 9. I hope this wasn't the Armour!
