I have a under active thyroid and after blood test doctor told me I was badly anaemic and sent me for a gastro and colonoscopy . I had a biopsy and I am waiting results ,I must admit she has scared me by mentioning cancer ! I just wondered if anyone else is or has suffered from low iron and can it be due to the underactive thyroid ?
I can tell you this: I've had pernicious anemia due to a low vitamin B. A super b-complex helped that.
And I've had low iron, that, too, was helped with supplements.
It's wise to find out what's causing the anemia if it's super low and rule out anything "scary", but, yes, hypothyroidism and the issues with digestive absorption can cause SOME types of anemia.
