Is 4.8 considered hypothyroidism?

When you think about the fact that healthy people have TSH around 1.0 (or lower), your level screams hypothyroidism (sorry).

Unfortunately, some doctors are too number-focused and will ignore symptoms if levels fall within the normal range.

Each of us has his/her own optimal range of levels....within the normal range.

Modern Endocrinologists follow the new guidelines of the Endocrinology association, where .5 to 3.0 is normal, and most old school doctors or family doctors that go by the hospital labs recommendations for normal levels think the normal range is between .5 and 6. There is a huge difference between a TSH level of 3 and one of 6!
If your level is over 3 and you are symptomatic, push the issue with your doctor.
It helped me to research and print articles on proper thyroid levels and give them to my doctor. I find that most doctors think I am slightly above an idiot and are usually shocked that I know what "Dysthymia" is.

Definitely need further testing! Ask your doctor to test free T3, reverse T3, free T4, and thyroid antibodies.
