Hypothyroidism Support Group
Hypothyroidism is the disease state caused by insufficient production of thyrohormone by the thyroid gland. There are several distinct causes for chronic hypothyroidism, the most common being Hashimoto's thyroiditis and hypothyroidism following radioiodine therapy for hyperthyroidism. I am sorry that you're feeling so awful, but hang in there. I haven't had your exact issues but wanted to let you know that if you have a Planned Parenthood clinic near you, they can do thyroid testing for you and get you a Rx if the TSH is out of range. When I didn't have insurance I went to the one in my area and they tested my TSH b/c I had been diagnosed with hypothyroidism before. And they provide services at no-cost or low-cost depending on your financial situation.
Thank you grumblies as well! You both gave me some good info and at least I know I am not the youngest person going through it.
No matter what though, you HAVE to stay on medication. Look for a free clinic, anything! because without it you'll start losing yourself. I've been there. Levels at 299 do not make your body feel any better.
Good luck, and I hope you start feeling better. Also, I'm sure you can go to your states health department (where they test for std's and give flu shots). I went there once to get checked for STD's and the doctor who saw me said If i EVER needed to see someone, i can pay the 20 dollars (for std check) and then you can ask the doctor about other things, not just stds. It's a loop hole he said. I thought that was amazing, so that's always my back up!
