Acne?

Apologies if this has been discussed before. I'm 52 and was Dx with hypothyroidism in October of 2012. Doctor put me on .05 mcgs once daily. I saw him again last week after having labs done and he said I needed an increase in the levothyroxine. He upped it to .75 mcgs once daily. And now I'm breaking out with painful pimples around my mouth. I googled levothyroxine and acne and came across several forums of people complaining of the same issues and all on their jawlines, chins, mouths etc.! Just wondering if anyone here had this issue. All the posts I saw from other forums were a few years old and no remedies were offered. Wondering if something like Pro active would help?

I have issues with this. It happened when I first started thyroid meds, and it happens everytime I have to go up a dose.

Proactive might help, but honestly the only thing that really works for me is waiting for my thyroid to "level out" - then it disappears on its own.

I am having a similar problem, only mine is happening with my medication being lowered. Has this happened to anyone else? Mine is strictly on my chin/jawline/mouth area...nowhere else. I am really hesitant to "wait it out", as my next labs aren't until December. Are people having this problem just on levothyroxine? Do the same problems occur when taking Armour? I guess what I want to know is are the levels being off the problem or is it a side effect of Synthroid?

I have never had great skin, but I saw a dermatologist before I was actually diagnosed with Hypo because my skin was so very bad (very big / bad zits everywhere) and I was in my 40's. He gave me a prescription for acne medication, but said that if my insurance wouldn't pay for it I could purchase Rezamid Acne Treatment lotion on Amazon and it worked pretty well.
It does work well ($20) and may just get you over the adjustment period(s)
