Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) Support Group
The term hypoglycemia literally means "low blood sugar." Hypoglycemia can produce a variety of symptoms and effects but the principal problems arise from an inadequate supply of glucose as fuel to the brain, resulting in impairment of function. Derangements of function can range from vaguely "feeling bad" to coma and in the worst case, can be fatal.
I seem to feel the worst when I first get up.I use to eat hard boiled eggs but now eggs make me ill. So I have chicken or turkey, yogurt with out all the sugar and some cereal about an hour later. I carry peanut butter crackers with me. I also have to eat something every 2-3 hrs. Not because im hungry but because I start to feel weak and light headed. I do find fruit to be helpful. I just started writing down how I feel, what I eat and what my blood glucose # are.
Lanaleo, keeping track would be good for you as well. Good snacks are cheese and crackers (gluten free is fine if necessary), nut butter on celery, essentially you are looking for protein and some low glycemic carbs. You may need to avoid sugar foods, these cause your blog sugar to rise and drop too quickly...the protein takes longer to digest and keeps it steadier.
Also be thinking about dehydration, it makes hypo worse. Lots of water and decaf drinks. Some folks can use sweeteners like stevia and sucralose and some find even they affect our blood glucose.
You can't know if it's hypo until you test your blood, so that's step one. There are some cheap testing kits at most drug stores, I like true test trutogo, its tiny and the strips are inexpensive on Amazon.
