Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) Support Group
The term hypoglycemia literally means "low blood sugar." Hypoglycemia can produce a variety of symptoms and effects but the principal problems arise from an inadequate supply of glucose as fuel to the brain, resulting in impairment of function. Derangements of function can range from vaguely "feeling bad" to coma and in the worst case, can be fatal.
I need someone who knows and actually understands.. I had my first low glucose episode when I was 4 years old, we hadn't known what it was, only that I couldn't move my body. It started reappearing around age 13. And now that I am 19 it's severe. It affects my everyday life. I now live permanently between a 65mg and a 110mg. 110 being the highest it will usually stay. But it's constantly around a 75. Around 30 minutes after eating it seems as though it just drops; no matter what I eat. It's like riding the borderline of fainting all day. I joined today because I need someone who understands. Someone who knows how it feels to feel completely helpless during a low. I need this because I feel as though all my loved ones become so frustrated with me; they think I'm upset or bored with activities all the time. When in reality I can't help it; and it's driving me over the edge. It's pushing me into this weird depression where it seems almost not worth fighting with my glucose any more.
I completely know what you are going through, so you are definitely not alone. I have been dealing with this for 15 years, so I can safely say it does get better. Lately I have had a new wave of low readings, so this has pushed me to figure out some new strategies. First thing im doing is going back to the doctor to get some updated bloodwork. With that information I will decide what is next.. Maybe a homeopath or other new options..
The newest thought that keeps me positive is that I am lucky enough to have the options of going to the doctor/ homeopaths because I'm lucky enough to have insurance. And I life in an area that has easily accessible Heath care. Plus I have money to buy food. I know that may sound corney, but I always think- what do poor people do in this situation!?
I am so sorry you are having such a time with your sugar levels. Just don't give up on yourself. There will always be someone to help.
