Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) Support Group
The term hypoglycemia literally means "low blood sugar." Hypoglycemia can produce a variety of symptoms and effects but the principal problems arise from an inadequate supply of glucose as fuel to the brain, resulting in impairment of function. Derangements of function can range from vaguely "feeling bad" to coma and in the worst case, can be fatal.
If eating or drinking something helps it certainly could by hypoglycemia. I know with my little guy (8 yrs old) we give him whole milk (homogenized) with some protein and that really helps his hypoglycemia. He has to eat every 3 hours and have a good snack before he goes to bed. He can't have sugar (no juice), and he eats lots of proteins and fats with only complex carbs. I've also found out that potassium really helps his blood sugars. Since he can't have all the sugar in orange juice and bananas, Ive found this wonderful organic yogurt that has 450mg and it really helps.
Doctors can be really clueless when it comes to hypoglycemia. I'm working with the best Doctors in the U.S. and I may have to go to Children Hospital in Canada to work with a Doctor there who understands it better.
Hope this helps
