Hypochondria Support Group
Hypochondria refers to excessive worry about having a serious illness. Hypochondria is often characterized by fears that minor bodily symptoms may indicate a serious illness, constant self-examination and self-diagnosis, and a preoccupation with one's body. Many individuals with hypochondriasis express doubt and disbelief in the doctors' diagnosis.
In periods of high anxiety, I get sore legs and tingling in my feet. I hope that eases your mind a little bit.
I'm so sorry you're feeling this way and I wish for you some peace.
I am a 26 year old male from Indiana. I've battled with myself over hypocondriasis for as long as I can remember. I TOO have convinced myself that I had ALS.
About a year ago my first child was soon to be born and I was overcome with anxiety and this anxiety manifested itself in the form of uncontrollable, sporadic, and sometimes violent muscle spasms across every part of my body. Arms, legs, back, lips, nose, etc.
Of course I googled the symptoms and the only POSSIBLE explanation was Lou Gehrig's Disease.....
Suffice to say it's a year later and I am perfectly healthy (although I still have random twitches on occasion) and I still suffer from Hypocondriasis.
You HAVE to use your mind and the same resolve you put into figuring out what is bothering you into proving to yourself that you don't have ALS.......You CAN run to the mailbox, you CAN eat with a fork and knife, you CAN brush your own teeth. These are all things someone with ALS cannot do.
A friend of mine who is a Psychologist told me something that's helped me a lot. If you have a severe problem, like cancer, or ALS, or heart disease......you'll know. You won't have to google symptoms! haha
Anyway, this is something I too still struggle with, but I'm starting to take effective measures to reduce it's impact on my life. I hope you can do the same!
I have found that the more I fear something, the more I become symptomatic of this illness/disease. My point it...try not to google.
Stressing over having a disease most likely will not prevent one from occurring, but the stress certainly might cause one.
I struggle everyday with the fear of having a disease that will harm me. I wish you the best and I hope you find peace...
