Hypochondria Support Group
Hypochondria refers to excessive worry about having a serious illness. Hypochondria is often characterized by fears that minor bodily symptoms may indicate a serious illness, constant self-examination and self-diagnosis, and a preoccupation with one's body. Many individuals with hypochondriasis express doubt and disbelief in the doctors' diagnosis.
How are you doing? I too am seeking help here. I lost my brother three years ago and I think things have gotten worse for me since then. Every time I hear of an illness, I start noticing syptoms in myself. Brain tumors, lung cancer, MS... I have promised my partner I would not google symptoms anymore..and I hate having my partner take the brunt of my worries. I cry thinking that my kids may grow up without me.
I know my thoughts are irrational and unlikely, but I feel them. Sometimes I need to hear about how unlikely it is to have ALS. And I need to be lead to the doctor when a worry might be warranted.
This is my first time here. Is there a way to send messages or emails without posting it here for all to see?
Lately I have had muscle twitching all over (mostly legs) and pins and needles in my feet. Today was a good day, but I was off-balance. Ugh..it is so unsettling and annoying...
I use a 10 scale to rate my anxiety, depression, and headaches and to note all of the weird things going on with my body. The journal helps and it gives me something to work toward.
Xanax has absolutely saved my life during panic attacks. I had to stop other meds because I felt like that was causing my depression. I have yet to go on antidepressants, but I think that is the next step when I get some time away from work over the holidays.
