Hypochondria Support Group
Hypochondria refers to excessive worry about having a serious illness. Hypochondria is often characterized by fears that minor bodily symptoms may indicate a serious illness, constant self-examination and self-diagnosis, and a preoccupation with one's body. Many individuals with hypochondriasis express doubt and disbelief in the doctors' diagnosis.

Hey everybody! I just found this site and joined the anxiety group and didnt realize there was a hypochondria group till now. I have suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, and hypochondria for most of my life. I always felt like I had grip on it all most of the time until about 4 years ago when I was at the end of my pregnancy with my last child and started to get severe pvc's from a medicine they put me on for pre-term labor. My focus was on my heart 24/7 after that. Now 4 years later my anxiety is so bad I can barely leave my house and am constantly thinking something is wrong with my health. I have symptoms that I keep telling myself just cant be anxieties! Heres one that has really been bothering me that I would love to know if anyone else has ever had. Mornings for me are horrible! When I wake up as soon as I stretch my legs I get this very weird cold rush in them. Almost as if my blood has this weird menthol stuff in it. Sometimes I also feel it in my arms, back, and head. Sometimes thats it and I get over it fast and it goes away after a little bit. Other times I start to feel like im going to pass out and get very shaky from it. Afterwards it will feel like my circulation just isnt right. Theres times when I wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning and my arms and hands are sleeping. Also when its bad one arm will feel heavy or my legs will go heavy and maybe a little numb. Ive done some googling (yes bad idea but im absolutely addicted to it!) and now im convinced I have ms! Can this all really be anxiety? Im just so sure something is wrong but when dont I? Anyone out there experienced any of this?

Also get these weird cold patches in my body throughout the days sometimes. Weird feeling! Again like there is a menthol patch just under my skin. Usually on my back. Notice it does get worse when im more anxious.

Hi! I too find the morning the worst. I wake up with a racing heart, sweats and often my hands are numb. I read on the hypochondria writeup on this forum that thats one of the common symptoms from anxiety/depression. I think your body will react in various ways and when it does, we focus on that sensation which only makes it worse. I know thats how it is with me anyway. I too also get shaky and feel like passing out sometimes. Have you talked to your doctor about this? My doctor explained to me that sometimes the chemicals in our brain are off balance and thats all it is. Its nothing that we've done or are doing wrong... its completely out of our control and we need a bit of help. Not that I'm encouraging you to go on meds but it might be an idea to talk to your doctor about all this. I hope things get better for you. You don't deserve to live like this. Good luck! Keep us posted!

One more thing.... My anxiety/depression is even worse now that I have kids. I think that also contributes to our feeling of vulnerability... thats how it is for me anyway ;)

I can understand that having kids contributes to your anxiety.I never had kids for that reason, I just knew it would cause me too much stress and anxiety. I just can't imagine dealing with kids and all their needs, problems, etc. You are a champ for being brave enough to do it. Take some deep breaths and try to enjoy those sweet little kids. If they're old enough, maybe if they know their mom is having a rough day they can be sweet and supportive and do things for you. I hope you can get some "me" time and recharge.

Thank you. I walk dogs at our local animal shelter every saturday afternoon so I get my "me" time there. But I think this year I'll definitely make more time for myself! :)

I have cancelled every one of them because I always panic while im there and now cant get myself to walk into his building. I HAVE to go this time! I need to get it checked out and hopefully it will ease my mind if anything else. Im just so afraid of bad news. Have you ever gotten yours checked out? I pray this goes easier then I think and everything checks out just fine!
