Hyperthyroidism Support Group
Hyperthyroidism (or "overactive thyroid gland") is the clinical syndrome featuring weight loss (often accompanied by a ravenous appetite), fatigue, weakness, hyperactivity, irritability, apathy, depression, polyuria, and sweating. Additional symptoms may include palpitations and arrhythmias (notably atrial fibrillation), dyspnea, loss of libido, nausea, vomiting, and...
So sorry you have hyperthyroidism. I have had Graves' Disease for almost 10 years now and prior to this I had undiagnosed hypO symptoms since my teenaged years.
Would you please include the lab ranges to go with the above labs you had done? Different states and countries have different lab values.
If you are hypER the last thing you want to take is extra Iodine. You will get even more hypER. Taking Methimazole lowers down the Iodine in our bodies.
I used to take Melissa and Bugleweed as well as high doses of Potassium Iodide and L-Tyrosine powder. I ended up getting more hypER and spent three days in the hospital with a suspected thyroid storm.
I do not suggest going the 'natural' route unless you have access to getting labs done every six weeks minimum to make sure your Free T3 and Free T4 stays in the mid ranges. I didn't have that option.
I see a holistic MD/NMD several times a year and get my labs done from him. Also I see an Endo once per year. Both my holistic Doc and Endo are friends.
Thanks and {{{hugs}}} :-)
Omit using the parentheses and symbols when posting labs as this board does not recognize it.
A holistic doctor is a doctor with degrees both as an MD and as an NMD (Naturopathic Medical Doctor). This type of doctor understands using both medicine and vitamins/supplements to treat the patient.
Have you had the thyroid antibodies test called the TSI done yet? It will indicate whether or not you have Graves' Disease.
{{{hugs}}} :-)
P.S. I'll comment on the labs as soon as I can but have a repair person coming to my house soon to fix the dishwasher.
Also, I've had open sores in my mouth and my nose for at least two months now. Not sure if anyone has had this issue...can't find on any blogs or website.
Good luck at the doctor. Hope you do well. I've not tried any natural remedy. I know one thing...I can't take how tired I'm feeling everyday. I have a professional job and I'm having a hard time staying awake.
Also, like you I have become moody and can cry easy. Well, any words of wisdom would help.
My question...is it possible to go from hyperthyroidism to hypothyroidism?????
Find out where you are at with the Free T3 and the Free T4. I tell people to aim these at mid ranges. Where are you at with these Free Ts? It would explain why you go from hypER to hypO on the meds.
So to answer your question, yes, one can go from hypER to hypO.

I assume that methimazol is the same as carbimazol? Thats what I was taking. Any way, from the research I have done this drug is made from an extract of cabage, so eating veg from this family helps to lower tyroid levels. eg.brocoli, cauliflower. I also found cuting out caffine helped with the adrenaline rushes and "speeding up" feeling. For the mood swings and depression St Johns wart, Lemon Balm and valarian are very good. (I take StJohns Wart in the morning and Valarian at night, Valarian is good for helping you get to sleep.
I hope this helps...Cheers..:-)
Yes, Methimazole similar to Carbimazole. Thanks for sharing about the Cabbage. Cabbage is a goitrogen food meaning that it helps to lower down thyroid levels.
